本书稿由上海中国航海博物馆提供，为《国家航海》系列的第二十三辑， 收录了十多篇学术论文，是关于近代中国海关史研究的特辑。书中论文，或从近代中国海关的成立与沿革，或从近代中国海关与传统海关的关系，或从近代中国海关的档案以及出版物等角度，多方面、全方位探讨了其在近代中国扮演的角色，以及它对近代中国政治、经济、文化的影响，可以说反映了近代中国海关研究的学术前沿成果。
