Tong Pei Yi, The late Professor Tong Pei Yi (1932-2016) was a famous bamboo taxonomist in China and the first author of Iconographia Bambusoidearum Sinicarum I and IL In his lifetime, Professor Yi published four new bamboo genera, over 250 new species and infraspecific taxa, more than 160papers, and 13 monographs. He was a professor at Sichuan Agricultural University; the deputy director of International Cultivar Registration Center for Bamboos; a visiting professor at the Flower Research and Development Center of Southwest China, Chinese Academy of Forestry; vice chairman of the First Board of Members of Sichuan Provincial Bamboo Association and Sichuan Bamboo Professional Committee; and a member of the editorial board of Journal of Bamboo Research, Bamboo Research, and Flora of Siehuan. He was also an overseas member of the Bamboo Association of the USA and Japan. Professor Yi made remarkable contributions to bamboo research in China and the world.
